Hello!
My name is Laura and I am a teacher candidate at Brock University. My two teachable subjects are Mathematics and Chemistry. I have greatly enjoyed the past 4 years at Brock and looking forward to having this year dedicated to teacher education and practice teaching.
Although Math has not always been a subject I enjoyed throughout elementary and high school, I began to enjoy it greatly in university after taking a first-year calculus class. After taking several more math classes as electives, I decided to change my major to math and have really enjoyed it.
I have had the opportunity to tutor students in high school math for the past 4 years and that experience has really shown me that teaching is the field I am passionate about. I find it so rewarding to be able to see those moments when a student understands what is being taught and help to change the mindset of being bad at math.

This blog was used for a previous undergrad education class so you will see that the past three blog posts were focused on topics related to integrating curriculum and assessment.
New postings will be focused on new ideas and reflections from my teaching mathematics course. I am very excited to be in a course dedicated to teaching grade 7-12 mathematics and to have a small group of teacher candidates with this same teachable to work with.
This year, I hope to gain more knowledge on interactive learning activities for a math classroom. I am also hoping to learn more about teaching those tricky math concepts in a variety of ways for students.
I look forward to being able to use this blog as a place for reflection and idea sharing. Thanks for reading!
Laura
